I beg to differ with Minister Jesmond Mugliett (TMID, 4 December) in his bragging about the government delivering on its promises to build roads. He refers, for instance, to Triq Ghajn Qajjet, which I am taking to mean the valley bed road along Chadwick Lake. About half a kilometre of it is still full of huge potholes, large enough to stop a car.

And he refers to Triq Birbal in Balzan. Why does he not try to get his driver to drive along that road?

It is still all mud and unmade ditches, with heavy machinery blocking the way. It has been like that for weeks and weeks, still inaccessible to motorists. What is wrong with the man? Has all the criticism he has been getting gone to his head?

And he should drive down Chadwick Lake hill; it is near impassable. I wonder, what would happen should some farmer in those fields have a serious accident there, and need an ambulance urgently.

A Nationalist administration has been neglecting our roads for 20 years, now the minister responsible is bragging about the money it is spending to mend them. The roads should never have been allowed to deteriorate to that awful condition. Who does the minister think he is kidding?
