To clarify certain points which appeared in an article on this newspaper, immigrants who get Lm17 every two weeks are the second worst case scenario, Marsa Open Centre CEO Terry Gosden told The Malta Independent. Other classifications of immigrants get different amounts.

During a conference held earlier this week, Mr Gosden had said that immigrants get Lm17 per month. In fact, this amount of money is given to persons who are returned to Malta under the Dublin 2 treaty. They actually get Lm17.50 every 14 days and not every month, working out to Lm1.25 per day.

Persons who have THP (temporary humanitarian protection) get Lm28 every 14 days, working out to Lm2 per day.

Those who are failed asylum seekers get Lm21 every 14 days, or Lm1.50 per day.

Persons who return on a voluntary basis rather than being forced to return to Malta under the Dublin 2 treaty get no financial assistance, or accommodation.
