Moments In time

Malta Independent Saturday, 8 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

During the month of December Gallery G will be hosting the most recent collection of works by the established artist John Martin Borg. The exhibition, which consists of over sixty pieces, includes the artist’s ever popular maritime works together with his distinctive ethereal landscapes. Included also is a selection of religious works and a number of concept studies for a large work which was commissioned for the President’s palace at San Anton. These studies give a good concept of how the artist develops his commission using a series of paintings and sketches.

Of special interest is a retrospective selection of abstract paintings which complete the collection. The selection covers some of the artist’s earliest abstracts, dating back to the early nineties; and extends to his more recent meditative works. Although Mr Borg does not dedicate much of his time to abstract, it is through this technique that he expresses his deepest emotions, which are often too obscure to be expressed in any other form. It is for this reason that his most spiritual works are rendered in abstract. One room of the gallery will be dedicated to the abstract works, giving the viewer the opportunity to get a glimpse of the artist inner personality.

The exhibition is entitled Moments in Time, which defines the qualities of the paintings mostly done on location. Each painting captures a particular moment and freezes it for posterity.

Moments in Time will be open for the public until December 2007 and is being sponsored by Attard & Co. with Goiya Wines, Bank of Valletta plc and Busy Bee Ltd.

Gallery G’s exhibition halls and Gallery shop (No 4, Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Lija) are open to the public between 9am and 5pm weekdays and 9.30am and 12.30pm on Saturdays.
