A Successful year for Malta – PM

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The year 2007 has been a positive one for Malta, as all the government’s efforts and achievements have helped the people attain a better quality of life, said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi during an interview on Radio 101.

Dr Gonzi said that despite the situation in the international market, and the competition with which Malta is constantly being faced, the government was still successful in attracting a record number of foreign investments; a registered increase in tourism, and an increase in employment.

He reiterated that the fact that Malta passed all its tests and will now be adopting the euro next January, confirms Malta’s economic position.

“The government will definitely have more successes, because in 2008 we will continue with our projects and make good use of the opportunities offered to us by the euro.”

And as of next January employees will pay less income tax, and a good number of families will benefit from a substantial increase in the children’s allowance.
