Nature Trust Voices concern over Comino

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Nature Trust (Malta) has expressed its concern over Comino and has called on MEPA to take urgent and immediate action.

In a letter, the NGO said that other environment NGOs have, for the past two decades, been complaining about the bad state of neglect Comino is in.

The letter also mentioned the problem of pig farm sewage that is dumped on land and at sea and which has been raised on numerous occasions, particularly over the last five years.

“The site is protected at international level and it is now high time that the dumping of raw untreated sewage is stopped.”

Furthermore, Nature Trust questioned whether water sampling is being carried out in the area and why fish-farming activities were given the green light in a place close to a source of constant pollution.
