... The Ball... the racket and ‘Skolasport’

Malta Independent Monday, 10 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

For the ninth year running Skolasport organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport is being sponsored by Kellogg’s. Among several disciplines, tennis sessions are being offered in collaboration with the Malta Tennis Federation at the Kordin Tennis Club, Corradino, Paola.

Indeed every Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am young people meet at Kordin Tennis Club to practice tennis at a beginners and intermediate levels. These sessions are highly instructed by two coaches Lyon Xuereb and Manuel Bonello. With spirited enthusiasm Head Coach Benny Vidal explained that participants are conducted through a specific programme of warm up and fitness exercises such as running fast through hurdles to gain coordination.

Tennis requires an eye for precision and detail, thus aspiring tennis players master their control over the ball through several techniques in relation to the surrounding conditions.

Mr Vidal clearly stated that “the more you hit the ball with the racket the more you improve… as like all sports, tennis requires persistence, perseverance and consistency.”

Kellogg’s sponsors Skolasport to implement its philosophy and encourage young people to lead a healthy life style. To participate in the tennis sessions and for further information kindly contact Head Sports Programmes Ms Tanya Zahra at the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, Cottonera Sports Complex, Cottonera on 21660658/9, fax 2166-0652, email [email protected] or visit www.sportmalta.org.mt
