I refer to Joe Cristina’s letter (TMID, 4 December) The PN needs to lose. Firstly, the PN has been in government since 1998 – nine years, not 20.
It is in the Labour Party’s own interest to lose the forthcoming general election, only then they will have a chance to be in government sometime in the distant future.
I predict that after they lose the next election, the Labour Party will split into three factions, it will be the fourth time that Labour will have done this in their history. We had the Mintoff-Boffa split, then the Mintoff -Pellegrini split, followed by the Sant-Mintoff, and now the Sant-Falzon and others.
Theoretically they are already split. What they said yesterday is forgotten the day after; figures are mentioned as if they are drawing up tombola numbers.
The fact that Labour are still struggling after years in opposition is very worrying. They are stuck with the old guard. They were tried by the people a few years ago, but they failed miserably.
I profoundly and honestly believe that it will be in the Labour Party’s own interest to lose, perhaps this time will actually help them start afresh and get rid of the old Labour guard. It is a chance they cannot afford to ignore.
