Naxxar Lions vs Lija Athletic 0-1

After just three minutes the Naxxar goalkeeper Bjorn Attard brought off a fine save to stop a shot by Alan Ellul and in the 15th minute a Glen Barry free-kick just missed the target.

Then Lydon Cilia hit just high over the bar following a solo effort with Naxxar having a clear opportunity through Andy Bartolo who shot from the edge of the penalty area and Luke Bonnici saved with difficulty.

In the 23rd minute Lija were very close to taking the lead as Daniel Cremona’s cross from the left flank was headed just wide by Glenn Barry but just before the break Lija broke the deadlock through a Beppe Antignolo direct free-kick.

Naxxar shared the exchanges during the second period with Lija being denied by Bjorn Attard early on off a shot by Lydon Cilia. At the other end Naxxar had a Bernard Farrugia shot which was cleared off the line by Jean Paul Scerri and an attempt by Andy Bartolo which was saved by Luke Bonnici.

In the 67th minute the Naxxar keeper brought off a difficult save to stop a strong shot by Cilia with Naxxar being unlucky five minutes from time as they hit the crossbar off an Adrian Fenech close-range shot.

Mgarr United vs Rabat Ajax 0-4

Mgarr had a good first-half and early on the crossbar denied them off an Alan Chetcuti free-kick. On 22 minutes a shot by Jonathan Ebejer was saved by Azzopardi and the Rabat keeper was again on hand five minutes later as he came out of goal to dive at the feet of the advancing Mark Abela.

On 34 minutes Rabat should have taken the lead with Alan Zahra crossing from the right flank And Adam Smeir all alone in front of goal shot straight into the Mgarr goalkeeper Kevin Ellul.

Just before the break Mgarr went close through a Daniel Schembri free-kick. Barely a minute into the second-half, Rabat broke the deadlock through Emanuel Muscat whose shot from outside the penalty area beat Kevin Ellul.

In the 48th minute Rabat increased their lead with Adam Smeir's pass being picked up by Darren Galea who shot in from close-range Mgarr suffered a third goal in the 63rd minute as Rabat scored through a long-range dipper by Alan Zahra and ten minutes later Dylan Falzon made it 4-0 after the Mgarr keeper had saved partially off an attempt by Darren Galea. Late in the match Rabat were unlucky as a shot hit the post.

B'Bugia SP vs St.Andrews 4-1

The Saints had a good first-half and were close on various occasions. Early on they were unlucky as a close-range shot by Steve Falzon was blocked on the goal-line by Edward Azzopardi.

In the 17th minute St Andrews wasted a clear opportunity with Neil Chetcuti hitting just wide in front of goal and three minutes later Anthony Gera did likewise following a cross by Jonathan Briscoe White. On 24 minutes B’Buga broke the deadlock through Johann Zammit from a pass by Ronnie Celeste and on the half-hour it was again Zammit who beat Tabone with an angled shot.

Early on in the second period B’Buga’s striker Johann Zammit was close to a hat-trick as his shoot was deflected by a Saints’ defender.

The Saints replied through Steve Falzon whose attempt was cleared off the line by Edward Azzopardi and on 57 minutes Ronnie Celeste made it 3-0 for B’Bugia from a pass by Noel Tabone.

Then the Saints wasted a clear goal scoring opportunity through Jeremy Gatt Coleiro with B’Bugia hitting the crossbar through a lob by Ronnie Celeste. In the 72nd minute Jonathan Briscoe White reduced the arrears for the Saints but B'Bugia restored their three-goal lead five minutes later through Ronnie Celeste’s second goal. Just before the final whistle the post denied Celeste from grabbing a hat-trick.

St.Venera L. vs Sirens F.C. 2-1

St.Venera created the better opportunities during the first period with Mark grech shooting just wide from a good position after 15 minutes. Sirens responded through two Ian Borg efforts which just missed the target with the Lightnings coming back in the 32nd minute through James Galea whose shot was well saved by Buttigieg.

Then St Venera wasted an easy opportunity through Mark Grech and just before the break an overhead kick by Ian Falzon was saved by the Sirens’ keeper.

Five minutes into the second-half St Venera hit the post through a Stefan Farrugia free-kick with Sirens gradually sharing the exchanges and on the hour they took the lead through a low shot by Adrian Galea following good work by Giovanni Galea.

A minute later a Kenneth Zammit free-kick bounced off the crossbar and in the 79th minute they were reduced to ten players with Joseph Mallia being shown the red card for a second caution.

Five minutes from time St Venera made it one-all through a Stefan Farrugia free-kick with the Sirens' keeper being completely at fault as the ball slipped from his hands into the net. Then James Galea missed a sitter for the Lightnings but three minutes into added rime their substitute Pierre Spiteri scored a dramatic winning goal following a swift counter-attack.
