A 52-year-old man was placed under probation for three years after he grievously injured his wife.

Godfrey Slattery, from Vittoriosa, pleaded guilty to making his wife fear that he would use violence on her, assaulting her and breaching the peace. In handing down her judgment, besides taking into account the man’s admission, Magistrate Doreen Clarke also considered that the wife pardoned her husband and that the two were attending a course by the Appogg agency in order to address their matrimonial problems. The man’s clean police record was also taken into account.

Dr Josè Herrera and Dr Veronique Dalli appeared for the man while Police Inspector Jesmond Borg led the prosecution.
