During these past months one has come to notice the increase in the price of items such as food, medicines and also other basic things that each and every Maltese consumer buys daily.

Former Nationalist Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami never bothered so much about such increase. In fact he had said “Ha joghlew il-prezzijiet ” (Let the prices go up). Now, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi does not seem to bother too much about these new burdens that each and every one of us is having to carry.

This has become the new way of doing politics for the Nationalist Party. They fail to react to each and every problem that we have to face – they are out of touch with reality and blame it all on the international market.

Our country needs vision, optimism and a true leadership which really believes in our economy so that we could move on with other EU countries. If not, we will remain in this dead-end which the present government has conducted us into.

Dr Sant is proving himself to be a leader from the opposition benches too and this could be seen by his continuous concern to such a problem. It was he who proposed an urgent meeting of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, and his suggestion was accepted.

Today, after a lot of criticism from the Nationalist Party, the hedging agreement which Dr Sant proposed a few years ago is going to be used to put our economy on its feet again. This is perfect proof that Labour’s message is still being heard in spite of being in opposition. This can only assure us that Labour will deliver when in government in a few months’ time.

Labour is delivering and we are proving to be the new hope for our country. It’s time for change… and it’s definitely time for Labour!
