Live Nativity Scene in Mqabba

Malta Independent Saturday, 15 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

After last year’s success, the first ever “Live Crib” is once again being organised in the village of Mqabba by the Santa Marija Youth Section.

This event consists of a live enactment showing the Birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. For the occasion the “Old Hospital” Buildings at St. Innocent Street in Mqabba will be converted by these young people into a unique atmosphere where one can see and experience one of the greatest events in the history of the world.

The Presepju Haj, as it is traditionally known in Maltese, will show many of the aspects believed to have occurred in Bethlehem during the First Christmas ever. There will be various craftsmen from the era, a small market set up, the Three Wise Men and real animals to help create the enchanting atmosphere.

During last year’s edition hundreds of people from around the Maltese Islands visited the event.

The official opening will be held on Saturday 22 December with a Christmas Carols Concert being performed by the Choir Fjur tal- Karmelu at 5.30pm in St. Innocent Street in Imqabba. The general public is kindly invited to be seated by 5.15pm. The Live Crib with a running commentary will be enacted every day between 22 - 30 December at 7pm.

The crib will also be open at these times: 6pm – 6.40pm, 7pm – 7.45pm and 8pm – 8.30pm.

Entrance is free of charge
