Rabat D 5
Kirkop Utd 0
The final score is a real indication of the difference between the two teams. Rabat completely dominated the proceedings with Kirkop managing only two chances in the second period. Following this win Rabat are on 14 points from seven games and are in third place behind second-placed Qormi and leaders St Patrick, while Kirkop are occupying the penultimate position having only four points from eight games.
Rabat went straight on the offensive and put the Kirkop defence under pressure.
Rabat keeper Darryl Vella, who had an easy Saturday afternoon, neutralised the ball from Scicluna’s cross-shot and after the same player pounced on a faulty clearance he entered the area and lobbed over the bar after the Rabat keeper came out of his charge to narrow the angle.
The rout commenced in the 20th minute when Ryan Micallef shot in the rebound with a rising shot from the edge of the area on Vassallo’s cross and five minutes later it became 2-0 after Roderick Vassallo outsped a defender on the right flank and from his cross Terence Azzopardi headed in. The second period was a total dominance by Rabat. The score became 3-0 in the 53rd minute when Ryan Micallef finished off his dribble with a low shot.
The fifth and final goal was scored in the 67th minute. From a free kick taken by Christian Vassallo, Abdilla turned the ball to a corner with a diving save and after the flag kick by Azzopardi the ball finished in the net for a fifth time from a header by Ryan Micallef.
