Mr P. Aquilina, Nationalist Party coordinator for Local Councils, persists in his contradictions. It cannot be otherwise. His mentors gave him just one directive: extol all PN local councils and degrade all Labour-led councils except one, Zejtun. Coming from a nationalist diehard, this is indeed something! Yet Mr Aquilina knows that Zejtun local council is inspired by and practices labour values on all fronts.

On more than one occasion, the electorate has democratically confirmed that many other Labour-led councils in both Malta and Gozo have, in their particular area of operation, achieved success. There is one subtle difference however: at Zejtun we have learnt from bitter experience not to fall for PN machiavellian plots. We are also careful to avoid unnecessary slips which provide much needed fodder for the hungry “holier than thou” PN spin machine. The likes of Mr Aquilina, slyly planted all over the local media spectrum, will then have a field day creating monsters out of mites. This attitude reminds one of prostitutes parading in vestal virgin white, prodding and tempting so that they will eventually have reason to scream to high heaven that they have been raped! How else can one explain calling an authorised officer false, as Mr Aquilina has called Mr Soler, simply because the latter performed his duty and stated factually and correctly that he was following a directive of the Director of Local Councils. Yet I would not be surprised if the term “false” carries overtones of hidden threats!

Need I remind Mr Aquilina that twice – the second time unsuccessfully – the Nationalists tried to disrupt the democratic will of the Zejtun electorate for illicit and deceitful “political gain”! Mr Aquilina can carry on with his tirades and is always welcome to get direct, first-hand knowledge of enough PN-inspired malpractices to fill pages and pages of newsprint.
