Heritage Malta’s Caravaggio exhibition, which came to an end at the beginning of December, was a big success, the organisers said yesterday. All targets were reached and surveys showed that nearly all visitors rated the exhibition as a positive experience. The paintings have now left Malta and have arrived safely in their destination despite several problems caused by the truck drivers’ strikes in Italy.

Heritage Malta surveys carried out during the exhibition reveal that 93 per cent of Maltese visitors and 85 per cent of the foreigners thought that the exhibition was a positive experience and most of the respondents claimed that they recommended the exhibition to a friend. Of the total number of visitors, an encouraging 33 per cent were Maltese, Heritage Malta said. Foreign visitors came mainly from Britain, the USA, Germany and Italy in that order.

All eight paintings are now forming part of an exhibition on Caravaggio at the Museo Agostino Pepoli in Trapani, Sicily.
