PM Opens Neapolitan crib at Castille

Malta Independent Tuesday, 18 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

An 18th century Neapolitan crib is being exhibited at the Auberge de Castille, where the Prime Minister officiated at the exhibition’s opening.

The crib’s curator, Fr Edgar Vella, explained how the Neapolitan crib traditional evolved from the 18th century when the manufacture of crib statuettes was considered as an established craft.

The shape of the original statuettes make the crib unique, he said. The Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr Tommaso Caputo, was present for the opening, during which the Prime Minister urged the public to visit the exhibition.

The exhibition is open until 7 January, except for today. Opening hours are 6 to 8pm Mondays to Fridays, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
