After the glory of the Women’s national rugby team winning the team Silver Medal at the MOC Sports Awards, the Maltese women’s clubs were brought back to earth by the Moscow Regional Representative side, Khimki, who won a tournament in France last year and are obviously a world class team.

They beat all three Maltese clubs in the quad tournament at Marsa.

Their well drilled and coached team support work and positional sense enabled them to create overlaps for their fastest runners waiting out wide. Tenacious tackling shackled the spirited Maltese attacks, and when the Maltese girls broke through superior speed enabled the Russians to catch up and tackle back.

Khimki beat Sharks Saddles 19-7, Panthers Huggins 53-0, and Kavallieri York Cisk Excel 15-7, although Kavallieri York Cisk Excel lost Esther Azzopardi, their quickest runner, to a nasty cut leg. Her presence might have made a big difference, especially as Kavallieri York Cisk Excel had just enjoyed morale boosting revenge on Sharks Saddles by 19-0. Also the missing Beverie Sultana weakened Sharks Saddles.
