A Moroccan man was conditionally discharged for a year yesterday after pleading guilty to injuring a residential complex receptionist while drunk.
Malik Ahmed Shermaddo, 20, who currently resides in a hotel in Sliema, pleaded guilty to assaulting Ronald Agius, a receptionist at the Garden View complex in Swieqi and causing less than Lm50 in damages to his spectacles on Tuesday around 10.30pm.
The court, presided over by magistrate Anthony Vella, heard how Shermaddo assaulted the receptionist after he had asked him to leave the complex.
Mr Agius said he forgave Shermaddo who had apologised; yet asked the magistrate to forbid the Moroccan from approaching the complex in fear that another incident might occur.
Magistrate Vella conditionally discharged Shermaddo and ordered him not to approach Mr Agius or Garden View Complex for a year against a Lm200 fine in default.
Police Inspector Martin Sammut led the prosecution while Dr Patrick Valentino appeared for the accused.
