Table Football: Cremona Wins first local event

Malta Independent Friday, 21 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

During the first weekend of December, The Malta Table Football Sports Association organised the Christmas Cup. Fifteen players took part to this competition. The event was organised on a knock out basis where only one player was to win all matches.

After the first sessions, no surprises took place and all favourites qualified to the next round.

At the quarter finals, Stefan Pace lost to Charles Aquilina, while Joe Mifsud lost to Cremona. For the semi finals, Mario Camilleri was the surprise of the scenario.

After some time missing from the local events, he returned to gain a decent semi final place as he marginally lost to Cremona 1-0 on a late goal. In the other semi final, Joe Borg Bonaci also bet Charles Aquilina 1-0 to gain yet another final against Cremona. This final was again a repetition of several finals played during these past years but both neglected to find the winner.

On the match tied 0-0, the game went on to extra time but neither opposition managed to find the winner. Thus, this final went on to shoot outs, where 13 shots were taken and Cremona won this competition 3-2.

The next competition within the MTFSA will be on the 20th January with the National Championship. Anyone interested in participating to the Table Football competitions can do so by dropping a line to the President Mr Joe Zammit Pavia on [email protected]
