With reference to Mr Victor Laiviera’s letter (Sport and education TMID, 21 December), I would like to say that I did use the basic text of the article mentioned by Mr Laiviera to put forward my message, but it was not word for word as your correspondent claimed. I have also added a few ideas myself, based on years of experience in sports.

I also did mention and give credit to all the references I made in my article, which the newspaper also published in full. My article does make reference to what Heather Reid said in the presentation, which is available to the public, but on the other hand it is also based on what I have come across in all these years of dealing with young and adult sportsmen as a coach and administrator.

Ms Reid has made use of other authors and references in her work, which is standard practice. The important thing is that these are acknowledged, as Ms Reid and I have done.
