Appreciation: George Mifsud Chircop

Malta Independent Sunday, 23 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

From Mr J. Engerer

Sometimes someone comes along and delves into the heart of a society’s culture to see how and what makes it tick and to study the relevance of the old to the new. These people always leave a wealth of information for those interested in the ever-changing cultural scene.

Over the last few years George Mifsud Chircop was instrumental in organising cultural events such as the National Folkloristic Ghana in Argotti Gardens and public meetings to remind people of their heritage and to celebrate folkloristic personalities that are no longer with us.

Always a cultured and a gentle man, he will be missed not only by those close to him and those interested in Maltese culture, but also by the singers and players of the Maltese folksongs that were so close to his heart.

May his God extend his Hand and take him to everlasting peace.

Joseph Engerer
