The big day has arrived and L-Istrina is all set to go live!
With L-Istrina 2007 taking off today at midday, the staff moved on to the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC) in Ta`Qali yesterday in preparation of the fundraising event and all has been set to make sure it is a success. All the gifts have also been moved to Ta’ Qali and prepared to be given out today to the lucky donors who will win thousands of really cool prizes.
The final touches to the set were made yesterday and donation lines were checked and re-checked together with the computerised gift winning system. The nine KIA cars are already in place, thousands of other gifts have been placed in different sections of the set, and the thousands of vouchers to be distributed are also on site.
L-Istrina’s donation lines were revealed yesterday and one has to use the following lines:
Donation of Lm 5 - Dial 5004 9005
Donation of Lm 10 - Dial 5004 9010
One can also send an sms on 5061 8924 for a donation of Lm 3.
If on the other hand people would like to donate a bigger amount in cash they can call on the special pledge lines on 21423239 during today’s programme and the donation will be collected by L-Istrina’s official pledge lines team.
The collection of piggy banks was also completed yesterday and the final piggies have joined their fellow piggy banks at the BOV Head Office. Over Lm6,000 has been collected from schools and round about the same amount has been collected from shops. The money will be presented on L-Istrina today by BOV officials who will also double the amount collected as a donation from the bank.
Ms Julie Sjoeberg, the coordinator of the piggy bank campaign, was satisfied with how the process was smoothly managed and effected. Ms Sjoeberg commented that “The logistic plan, which was quite a headache, was a success thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who took leave and gave their time and commitment towards L-Istrina.” She thanked BOV for their help and also the 118 heads of school that participated in the campaign and made L-Istrina reach the 42,000 children that attend their schools.
Ms Sjoeberg was also impressed by how much people have helped out by even using their own transport to make sure that piggy banks were collected and distributed. She felt honoured to be part of the L-Istrina team and being of help to all those benefiting from the campaign.
L-Istrina 2007 will be transmitted live on TVM, Net TV and One TV today between midday and midnight and can also be followed on www.di-ve.com who is supporting the event by both providing online donations and also by streaming the national fundraising event live on the website. A special appeal is being made to all Maltese living in foreign countries to contribute through www.di-ve.com.
