Labour’s spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and IT Leo Brincat yesterday condemned the killing of Pakistan’s Opposition Leader Benazir Bhutto.
“I believe that apart from casting a new dark shadow over Pakistan, this barbarous act can only disrupt this country’s important journey towards normalisation. Whoever were the dark forces responsible for this murder, one must remember that it has happened just two weeks before the general election and has served as an echo of the suicide attack that took place on her delegation as soon as she returned to her country a few months ago,” said Mr Brincat.
One can only hope that in these difficult circumstances, calm will prevail over such a strategically important country and that any form of extremism will be kept under control, wherever it may come from, he said.
