Opposition Leader Alfred Sant’s medical condition yesterday, after undergoing a major operation on Thursday morning, was “very satisfactory”, surgeon Anthony Zammit said in a medical bulletin made public by the Malta Labour Party yesterday.

Mr Zammit, who headed the surgery team, said that after a restful night, Dr Sant got out of bed yesterday morning and even had a physiotherapy session.

“The Labour leader’s medical condition is very satisfactory. The medical parameters are normal,” said Mr Zammit.

In a medical bulletin delivered at Mater Dei hospital shortly after the three-hour operation on Thursday, the surgeon said the major operation went according to plan and there were no complications during the procedure.

Labour Party secretary-general Jason Micallef issued a statement expressing the MLP’s gratitude to the many people who had expressed solidarity with Dr Sant, his family, his relatives and the Labour Party.

Mr Micallef insisted that any information on Dr Sant’s medical condition should continue to be released by means of the head surgeon’s bulletins and other medical bulletins.

Any other speculation in the media and elsewhere would be extra and unnecessary, said Mr Micallef, adding that the Labour Party was appealing for respect and prudence towards Dr Sant and his family.
