For many years, my family and I have enjoyed taking a walk along the picturesque, historical Victoria Dwejra lines.

Unfortunately, the road is in an appalling and disgraceful state. It’s a shame to leave such a place in such a shambles, if we want tourists to admire and enjoy our natural resources.

Now, to add insult to injury, I hear that the only embellishment in this area, a flower bed planted many years ago when the British Services left, and has for many years been cared for by Mr J. Ellul Mattei, is about to be destroyed and replaced by – wonder of wonders – a car park! Is it not enough that No. 21, part of our historical heritage, used as an Ammunition Depot, has been converted and is no longer an attraction for locals and tourists?

In the name of all nature lovers, I appeal to the Minister of Environment, MEPA, the Ramblers Association and other NGOs to unite under a common front and save a beautiful flower bed from this absurd and senseless destruction.
