War Is over if you want it

From Mr J. Portelli

War against the natural environment is over if you who are in power want it. War against the natural environment is over if you want it, dear common citizen, by voting for the environment.

Do you think that Ramla Bay in Gozo is not still under threat? If the plan for the villas is modified, then maybe after the general election is over it is possible that a permit will be issued. And the Nadur Cemetery still has a permit. You can defend the natural environment, dear government, but you prefer not to. It seems that Labour too will maintain the status quo. Remember Dr Sant’s comments on Hondoq and Ta’ Cenc.

You can defend the natural environment, dear common citizen, if you want to. You are powerful enough with your vote. Or do you prefer to vote the way you used to and continue letting our natural heritage go to rot? You will be held responsible for its destruction if you allow things to pass by, and it will be no use crying over spilt milk then, or concocting the excuse that things in Malta cannot get any better. Otherwise it will be true what is written that God punishes the people by electing bad leaders.

It is nice to see how Gozo natural’s environment is being advertised. “Let’s Gozo” they cry while showing pictures of open spaces and the natural environment. But some people who have a lot of money and power are saying, “Let’s gobble it all up”.

It is election time, and for me the big issue now is the natural environment. It is now or never. It is either saving it or losing it. You can stop them by voting for the natural environment.

Won’t you?

Joe Portelli
