State schools organised into colleges, where students can have a smooth ride and good support from kindergarten through to secondary level, will give them a strong education which will yield good results, said Education Minister Louis Galea yesterday.

Dr Galea said this during a meeting with Gozitan teachers when touring the boys secondary school in St Ignatious College, Qormi. The meeting was held as part of the preparations for operating a new secondary school which is being built in Gozo.

Dr Galea said the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools now had good exerience in building modern schools and said that it was of benefit for Gozitan teachers to familiarise themselves with the new style of buildings that are now being turned out as schools.

The Gozo project will see the redevelopment of the Lyceum complex in Rabat which will be turned into a new school for boys while the girls’ school will see modernisation work that will encourage better learning. This will be the fourth school to be built by the Foundation after those built in Qormi, Kirkop and the one that is under construction in Cospicua.

The government, with the foundation, has carried out a number of other projects in Gozo including modernisation work at schools in Ghajnsielem, Nadur, Xewkija, Zebbug and others.
