Sandrina England was born in 1963 in St Julian’s and studied at St Martin’s College of Art in London, UK. She followed to train as an iconographer at La Monastere de L’Enfant Jesus in France and has since then practised this art form as well as conducted teaching sessions. She exhibited her icons in Paris. Sandrina was deeply involved in fashion design and has had various fashion shows. Her first fashion event was held in Malta in aid of the Pestalozzi Village. Her work was published both in Malta and in overseas periodicals such as the London Fashion Weekly. Her fashion wear was featured with those of leading British designers at a fashion show held at the Savoy in London. Shealso works through a fashion firm in India. The recent inauguration of Angeli Gallery at 53, Tigne High Point, Tigne Street, Sliema took place on 20 December. Fr Marius Zerafa delivered a speech on angels in both their artistic representation and their theological context. Sandrina England's exhibition and work include icons done in tempera on wood, a small scale for private use and church icons on a larger scale, including an icon of St Paul influenced by Russian iconographer Andre Rubliev. Ms England was influenced by Marc Chagall’s angels and by Francois Boucher. The art gallery includes selective items of her fashion wear and jewellery. The exhibition runs until 16 January. The gallery will be open on a daily basis between 5.30 and 7pm. Saturday mornings between 10am and 12.30pm or by appointment.
