How true is the English saying that empty vessels make most sound. This saying fits exactly the likes of Dr Silvio Debono who, day in day out, delivers his propagandistic analysis of the local newspapers on One Radio. Without any doubt his prime intention is to criticise anything done by this government. He takes every opportunity to ridicule any initiative that happens on these islands. So long it is not a Labour initiative.

His latest topics were the hitch with the mobile ATM at the Valletta Waterfront where Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi was supposed to withdraw the first euro money on the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day.

For days on end Dr Debono tried to take the mickey out of the Prime Minister because of this hitch. How funny! What would Dr Debono have done if it was he who experienced this hitch? Did he never had to try once or twice before solving a minor technical hitch such as the one that happened to the PM? What would he have said if, for argument’s sake, it was Dr Alfred Sant who faced the same thing? After all it was not the Prime Minister’s fault.

Dr Debono was also scandalised because the first 100 euros cashed by the Prime Minister were signed by Dr Gonzi and donated to Dar tal-Providenza. Dr Debono stated that this was an illegal act as no one is allowed to write anything on any notes. How funny again!! Doesn’t Dr Debono realise that that was simply a charity stunt? In fact the Siggiewi home gained 629 euros from this gesture!

Even you, as editor of this daily, came in for some leg pulling by Dr Debono. He simply did not like your Enter the euro babies title for the newly-born babies on new year’s day (TMID, 2 January). As a true socialist eurosceptic he is all out against anything European. Even a well thought out title bothers him!
