The words, “point proven” came to my mind recently when I remembered the letter I wrote (TMID, 22 December) and upon reading that penned by Mr Eddy Privitera (TMID, 2 January). I criticised Mr Privitera for not being able to move on with the times and indeed reading his old anti-EU rhetoric proved just that. The same old foreign workers invasion, the same old the EU will steal our money; the same old the EU will give us our orders. Nothing has changed for Mr Privitera. It’s as if one is viewing a time warp of Malta between 1998 and 2003 where we had the doom and gloom campaign.

Unlike Mr Privitera I shall not proceed to bore every reader out of his or her brains by dishing out back the yes campaign leaflets. After all, that is no longer required for a once contentious issue, save for Mr Privitera and his friends at CNI which remind us of the “good old days”.

As for my point on the Malta Labour Party and local elections I never stated that I do not want the Malta Labour Party in these elections. I merely said that Labour should not contest them solely and purely because the PN does so. Indeed I believe in local councils which have political parties running for them and the Malta Labour Party, being the party of a large segment of Maltese voters, has an important role to play in that.

Mr Privitera finally added, “As regards my voting for the Malta Labour Party despite my being ‘a committed Eurosceptic’ is due precisely to what I wrote as a heading to my letter of 19 December, Malta needs a government, not a ‘clique’ !”.

Indeed I repeat; how sad that Mr Privitera’s so called facts against our membership in the EU are so made of myths and fairytales that to have a change in government he is constrained to voting for a political party that is committed to keeping Malta within the very same European Union.
