AFM Air wing personnel respond to request for blood donations

Malta Independent Friday, 11 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Members of the Armed Forces of Malta’s Air Wing continued their life-saving duties in a manner far from the norm, by responding to the National Blood Transfusion Center’s (NBTC) appeal for blood donations.

Sixteen members of the 80 odd, personnel of the unit, led by their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Claudio Spiteri, donated blood at the NBTC’s centre in Guardamangia.

Due to the fact that most of the units’ personnel are involved in some form of flying duty, they are restricted from donating blood because of international flying regulations, but all of the unit’s personnel not involved in flying turned out to show their support for the NBTC’s cause.

It should be noted that donating blood, apart from being painless, usually takes little more than 15 minutes.
