Court: European Arrest warrant issued for two men

A 56-year-old Algerian national was yesterday brought before the magistrates’ court, after a European Arrest Warrant was issued in his name on charges of human trafficking.

Ferhat Guellouma, who is currently serving a prison sentence at the Corradino Correctional Facility, is wanted by the Tribunale di Modica over charges of conspiracy and human trafficking.

Police inspector Maria Stella Attard and police inspector Sandro Zarb prosecuted, while Senior Counsel to the Republic Donatella Frendo Dimech appeared for the Attorney General.

In a separate case, a 63-year-old Maltese man was arraigned before presiding magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona, after a European Arrest Warrant was issued in his name over charges of conspiracy and human trafficking.

John Xuereb, from St Paul’s Bay, was remanded in custody after a European Arrest Warrant was issued by the Tribunale di Modica on charges of conspiracy and human trafficking.

Police inspector Maria Stella Attard and Police Inspector Sandro Zarb prosecuted, and Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for Mr Xuereb.

Dr Frendo Dimech represented the Attorney General.
