A 70-year-old woman is in hospital in critical condition after slipping and hitting her head against a car in Triq Tal-Borg, Paola.

The police said the accident occurred at about 10.30am when they were informed that there was a person in the road who was bleeding from a head injury.

The woman was apparently on the pavement about to cross the road, when for some reason she slipped, hit her head against a car and fell to the ground.

She was taken by ambulance to hospital, where she was certified in danger of dying because of her head wounds.

Duty magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona is holding an inquiry.
