Police were yesterday led on a wild goose chase, after a man who had been stopped by a Mobile Squad sped away, police said.
Mobile Squad officers stopped the man, a 46-year-old from San Gwann, somewhere in the south of Malta because the car he was driving drew their suspicion.
The man stopped his car, but sped off as soon as the police came near him.
The officers chased the man, doing their best to force him to stop the vehicle. In fact, they even fired a warning shot in the air.
Other police officers cordoned off the area to make sure that no-one got hurt. When the suspect reached Hompesch Road, Zabbar, his car went onto a centre strip. At this point, the suspect even reversed his car into the Mobile Squad's vehicle, damaging the car but injuring noone.
The man was later apprehended and after his car was searched, objects related to drug abuse were found.
Police investigations are still under way.
