Tancred Tabone was elected president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise for 2008 during the chamber’s first council meeting. At the same meeting, Stefano Mallia was elected senior vice-president while Charles M. Mercieca was voted in as vice-president.
The other elected officers were Peter Grima as honorary secretary; Mario Spiteri as honorary treasurer; Andrew Mamo as assistant honorary secretary; and Tonio Casapinta as assistant honorary treasurer.
On his election, in a brief address to his fellow council members, Mr Tabone thanked them for the support shown to him through their vote and promised his utmost commitment to reciprocate their trust. He expressed his belief in inclusive leadership and said he would strive to seek the widest possible participation of the chamber’s members. He thanked outgoing president Victor A. Galea for his sterling contribution during his term as president and insisted that he looked forward to continue building on the achievements obtained by the outgoing officer group, first and foremost in such a crucial year following the signing of the memorandum of understanding for the merger with the FOI.
Tancred Tabone has been a Member of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise since 1981, and has served on its Council for the past 2 years. He has been managing director of the Forestals Group since 1981, during which period, the Group continued to grow and expand into new sectors.
In 1992 he was appointed director at the Malta Trade Fairs Corporation of which he was also chairman from 1994 to 1996. In 1992 he was appointed board director of the Water Services Corporation, and was appointed as its chairman in 1995 – a post he held till 1997. From 1999 to 2005, Mr Tabone was also chairman at the Mediterranean Offshore Bunkering Company Ltd. In 2003, he was appointed chairman at Enemalta Corporation, a post he occupied till 2005. Tancred Tabone is married to Karla nee Stephens, and has two sons, Luke and Alan.
