The nominees for the 2007 national sporting awards are to be announced today during an activity by the Sportswriters Association, the organisers of the contests.

The activity is being held at St James Cavalier in Valletta and starts at 10am.

Five persons will be nominated in each category that is being contested, that is, Sportsman, Sportswoman, Official, Team and Young Athlete. There is also an award for Disabled Athletes.

During the activity those nominated will receive a certificate and a commemorative plaque by the Minister of Education, responsible for Sport, Dr Louis Galea, who will also be making his sport policy speech

The finals night is scheduled to be held on Sunday 27 January.
