The Gozo College School of Drama recently put up two concerts in connection with the Christmas festivities. The first one, held on Saturday 15th December 2007 at the Oratory Don Bosco in Victoria was wholly dedicated to Ballet, whilst the other concert, comprising Ballroom & Latin American dancing and Drama representations was held at the Dr Joe Debono Hall in Nadur.
In the ballet concert, over 150 students took part, divided in to 17 groups. Each group presented a dance on stage. The ages of students ranged from 3-yr olds in the Recreational class to over-18 in the Major classes. The programme flowed on very smoothly with each group presenting a high quality performance in front of a full house consisting mainly of parents and relatives.
The students who follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet syllabus at the school were choreographed by their teachers Dr Simone Grech, Dr Ramona Cassar and Ms Sarah Grima. The latter also compered the evening. After the performances, Mr Gordon J Grech, Head of School, distributed RAD certificates to students who had successfully sat for the RAD exams and assessments held in June. In fact the school boasts of achieving 100% of passes, with about 25% Distinctions in the grades.
The other concert was also presented in front of a numerous audience. Junior Advanced Ballroon & Latin American Dance students, under the tuition of Ms Amanda Amaira and Ms Daphne Coleiro, presented a remix of the popular Christmas song Last Christmas.
The amalgamated Pre-junior, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Drama Students presented the Christmas musical ‘A Tale of Two Birthdays’ under the direction of Mr George Mizzi, Ms Mariella Spiteri and Ms Miriam Debono. Towards the end of the concert, the Head of School distributed the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) certificates to students who had successfully sat for the LAMDA examinations in Acting, which were held for the very first time in Gozo in July 2007.
