Remarking on a decision of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority’s Development Control Commission refusing to issue a permit for the extension of the shoreline premises of the Otters' Waterpolo Club in Marsalforn, Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson Harry Vassallo said that residents' objections had been given the weight they deserved.
“This is not the only instance of proposed inappropriate use of such facilities, and we must take comfort in today's decision. We hope that Mepa's present attitude will be permanent, and that any proposal for development in proximity to a public beach, is treated the same way, with strict observation of planning policies and rules,” Dr Vassallo said.
Victor Galea AD secretary general and Gozo spokesperson said: “Today's decision makes it clear that it is possible,to coordinate the many uses of public beaches without incurring irreversible losses.”
