The Archbishop, Mgr Pawl Cremona, OP, on Saturday afternoon addressed couples who were married last year and told them in a homily at St John’s Co-Cathedral to remember that they had three parents in law, two of them on earth, and another in heaven, the heavenly Father. And they should ask themselves if they were treating their spouse with the same love that God showed them.

In marriage they could not be together, if each of them thought as they did when they were single. After marriage the reality was new. One of today’s temptations was that immediately after marriage, a spouse sought space for his/herself. The space that should be sought was for each together.

Some declared love for their spouse, and then treated the spouse like a bird, doing what was convenient to them. What kind of love was this, the Archbishop asked.

And if they came across some difficulty in their married life, they should not allow everything to go to pieces before seeking help.

People had recourse to medicinal tablets as soon as they felt their head ache, and if the tablets did not help, they went to their doctor. Married couples in difficulty should not hesitate to make contact, even with the person who had married them.
