Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s, presents 90-minute training sessions every Saturday in basic skills, educational gymnastics and different sport activities.
The sessions, from 9am till 10.30am and from 10.30am till Noon, address two different age groups: the Foundation group, for children aged between four and seven, and the Participation groups, for children aged eight to 10. During the Foundation sessions, children are taught the basic skills of sport with fun to play a priority. The Participation sessions combine the basic skills of sport into games with rules. The philosophy of participation and not competition is implemented thus children are given a chance to develop wholly.
KMS stated that quality is always a priority and the three prime factors for which Skolasport excels are its facilities, coaches and equipment. The increasingly high-rate of attendance for both the Foundation and Participation sessions proves the success of such factors.
The Foundation and Participation training sessions are held at different venues so that children have the possibility to attend the closest sports centre to their home. These are the University Sports Complex, Tal-Qroqq (indoor facilities), Marsa Sports Complex, Marsa (outdoor facilities), Cottonera Sports Complex, Cottonera (indoor facilities) and St Benedict College, Kirkop (outdoor facilities).
Kellogg’s sponsors Skolasport and its initiatives to implement its philosophy and encourage young people to lead a healthy life style combined with the persistence, perseverance and consistence sports calls.
