Former Nationalist Minister George Bonello Dupuis was awarded a total of €2,795 on Monday in a libel case he instituted against Super One Radio presenter Manwel Cuschieri and former head of news Gino Cauchi.

The court, presided over by magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, found Mr Cuschieri and Mr Cauchi guilty of defamation after they edited a sound clip that led people to believe that Dr Bonello Depuis was inciting people to commit violent acts.

The court said that the sound clip aired on 5 November 2002, during a programme presented by Mr Cuschieri on Super One Radio was libellous and defamatory after it found how it was edited and censored with parts of what was said by Dr Bonello Depuis left out.

In handing down his judgment, magistrate Apap Bologna said that the clip was edited in such a way to lead listeners to believe that Dr Bonello Depuis was inciting people to commit violent crimes.

As a result, magistrate Apap Bologna found Mr Cuschieri and Mr Cauchi guilty of defamation and ordered them to pay Dr Bonello Depuis €1,397 / Lm600 each.
