Government policies were creating more and better work, and more companies were investing in different sectors such as ICT, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and new factories, deputy prime minister and PN deputy leader Tonio Borg told a Radio 101 interviewer.

The changeover to the euro and membership of the Schengen zone were the best certificates testifying to the government’s activities and Malta’s achievements in the European Union, Dr Borg added.

The three main pillars of the Nationalist government’s policies were employment, education and the environment. All three were a success: they had created 6,100 jobs in one year, a total revolution had been introduced in education, so that the education system in Malta today was among the best in Europe, and there had been careful investments in the environment, Dr Borg said.

He added that from this month workers would be paying less tax because lower tax was introduced in the last two budgets. Dr Borg said the Labour Party was waging a negative campaign, which he described as a lack of trust in the people. And not only did the Labour Party not believe in the advantages gained through changing over to the euro, it was also trying to rope in all shop-owners.
