Mosta’s striker Gilbert Martin scored two second half goals to give Mosta a hard earned win over St George’s to move to second place in the league table.

It was a well deserved victory for Molzahn’s boys as they were the better team especially in the second period, when the game came to life thanks mainly to Mosta’s continous pressure on the Saints?defence.

After a rather dull first half dominated by the defences, the second period brought some interesting moves with Mosta getting the reward in the end.

The first half was mainly played in midfield with very few scoring chances. Mosta had more of the ball but St. George’s were more dangerous in their breaks.

St. George’s paraded their recent signing Glenn Barry in attack, and the ex-Lija player combined well with Anizoba.

The first real danger came from Mosta when Carlos Camenzuli headed over the bar from two meters following a Massimo Grima freekick. A minute later St. George’s had a good chance with Glenn Barry testing Debono from an acute angle.

Ten minutes from time the Saints went close again with an Emerson Amaira header saved by the Mosta custodian.

The second half started with Gilbert Martin pouncing on a defensive blunder but his shot was saved by the alert Gatt. Mosta continued to show the better ideas, constantly playing in the Saints?half.

Massimo Grima’s header was well saved by Gatt, and Ryan Deguara’s shot went slightly over the bar.

On 65 minutes Mosta took a deserved lead with a brilliant move initiated from a Massimo Grima freekick. The ball was nodded down by Steve Borg towards Gilbert Martin who beat Gatt on the first post.

St George’s went close with a well executed freekick by Silvio Sciberras which went inches wide.

In the last minutes the Saints threw everything forward giving space to Mosta’s fast breaks.

Adrian Borg missed a glorious header in front of goal, and Gilbert Martin hit the side netting.

On 90 minutes Mosta goalkeeper Jonathan Debono was brilliant when he saved his side diving sideways to deny Silvio Sciberras from another precise freekick.

With the Saints?defence wide open, Mosta sealed the issue on 92 minutes when Ryan Deguara beat the offside trap before passing to Gilbert Martin who easily slotted home his second personal goal.

Marsa 0 vs Dingli S 3

Dingli Swallows easily beat Marsa to move clear from the bottom of the table. On the other hand Marsa are now in deep relegation trouble after yet another dismal display.

Dingli were yesterday by far the better team as they dominated from start to finish to emerge worthy winners.

Dingli's Chris Ciappara and Jeremy Agius were a span above the rest but all Dingli players gave a good account of themselves. Striker Mark Galea who moved from Mosta to Dingli, made his debut yesterday and could have easily scored on his debut, as he missed a couple of easy chances.

Dingli made their intentions clear from the start as they surged forward in search of an early goal. Chris Ciappara missed a glorious chance after two minutes play hitting wide from an ideal position. However Dingli made no mistake three minutes later when he shot home following a good Jeremy Agius move.

Marsa's only good chance came on 15 minutes when Ivan Borg was denied by a good Farrugia save. Jeremy Agius went close to double the score on two similar occasions, but Marsa goalkeeper Rodrick Spiteri saved in both cases.

Five minutes from time Dingli doubled the score when a Fabio Cauchi freekick was headed by Cachia towards Rodrick Spiteri who headed home from close range.

The Swallows continued to dominate in the second half with Marsa completely blotted out of the game. Mark Galea missed an easy chance in front of goal on 65 minutes, and seven minutes later Marsa were reduced to ten men when Chris Ciappara was floored by Marsa goalkeeper Rodrick Spiteri, with the latter given the marching orders.

Dingli continued to press forward in search of more goals as they created many scoring chances. Marsa's substitute goalkeeper Paul Medina did some splendid saves to prevent further goals. He was helped in no small way by his defenders who cleared off the line on two occasions.

Dingli scored their third and final goal a minute before the final whistle when substitute Jonathan Sapiano beat Medina following another good move between Ciappara and Jeremy Agius.
