Appreciation: Stompers RFC Player passes away

Malta Independent Friday, 18 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

With great sadness the Malta Rugby Football Union yesterday announced the passing of Bojan Nikolic (photo) at the age of 32, leaving behind a wife and son.

A post-mortem examination carried out yesterday revealed that Stompers RFC player died of a heart attack on Monday.

The news has come as a shock to all the rugby fraternity.

Nikolic has been one of the family for several years, playing his rugby with Stompers RFC and also with the National ‘A’ side. His position was on the wing where he scored several memorable tries with his strong running, helping his team win championships and Cup honours over the past four seasons.

Bojan was more than a friend to us all, a gentleman both on and off the pitch, he involved himself also in Youth coaching with Stompers RFC and Alligators RFC Youths and this shows his commitment and love towards the game.

This Saturday all matches will go ahead as per fixtures, however a minute’s silence will be observed in memory of Bojan ‘ Boki’ Nikolic before the Stompers RFC vs Overseas RFC and also prior to all other Rugby activities.

On behalf of all the local rugby community, the Malta Rugby Football Union sends its condolences to his family.
