To celebrate the Year of the Rat, the China Cultural Centre and Teatru Manoel will join forces to present the Chinese Acrobatics & Sichuan Opera performance and Chinese New Year Concert by Chongqing National Music Orchestra. The shows will take place on 29 and 30 January at 7.30pm.
After the success of the Chinese Spring Festival last year, the China Cultural Centre and Teatru Manoel are collaborating once again to bring you two evenings of traditional Chinese music and acrobatics.
Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe and Sichuan-Opera Troupe of Chongqing will perform on Tuesday 29 January. Chinese acrobatics ranks among the best in the world thanks to its long history, rich repertoire and distinctive artistic characteristics. As an acrobatic troupe of excellence and prestige in China founded in 1951, Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe boasts a group of outstanding Chinese acrobats and a repertoire of world-renowned acrobatic programs such as high pole, loop leaping, diabolo, etc. Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe has been highly praised and acknowledged for its excellent performances in more than 400 cities of over 70 countries of the world.
Sichuan Opera is characterised by unique solos, refined acting, rich percussion, and talented comedians, whose skills are unparalleled in the world. The performances are always full of humour, animated dialogues, and distinct local flavours. To portray various characters, the opera incorporates a series of stunts, including the famous ‘face-changing’. Sichuan Opera Troupe of Chongqing was founded in 1951. After more than half a century’s hard work and effort, it has well established its reputation for the artistic excellence and unique style. The Troupe has a repertoire of hundreds of traditional operas. The Troupe has toured and performed in many countries in Asia, Europe, Hong Kong and Taiwan regions.
On 30 January, the Chongqing National Music Orchestra will take the stage at the Manoel. The Orchestra, established in 1989, performs varied forms of music, such as large-scale orchestral works, solo, ensemble, chamber and vocal concerts and plays an important part in Chinese national music circle. It has offered numerous outstanding performances in and outside Chongqing since its establishment and traveled extensively for arts exchanges.
