The sight of Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi being driven to The Palace on Friday morning threw at least one Labour MP into a state. He rushed to court to tell all and sundry that the Prime Minister had just gone to tell the President to call an election.

This turned out to be just one other over-excited prediction of the election date when it turned out that Dr Gonzi had actually gone to Parliament to submit a motion calling on Parliament to ratify the Lisbon Treaty.

Discussion on the motion will begin at the Foreign Affairs Committee stage tomorrow. It will only be after Parliament discusses and hopefully ratifies the Treaty that one can possibly consider this legislature to be over.
