Lawrence Dimech’s Concern

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 January 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr V. Zammit

Regarding Mr Dimech’s concern that Malta is being negligent towards the Maltese in Australia, the buck stops with the relevant minister. In the absence of some specific policy by the government to reduce communicating with migrants in Australia, it is the Minister for Communications that has the burden to cooperate internationally to give maximum publicity to affairs in Malta.

Besides keeping in touch with us here in Australia, there will be a percentage who, when they see news and pictures of Malta, are more likely to travel to Malta. This means better relations between Malta and Australia, more tourists for Malta, more money for Malta and more money for the traders in Malta.

Inevitably, one has to conclude that the relative incompetence of the minister has to be examined. If the minister is failing the migrants in Australia, failing Malta itself and failing the traders in Malta, then it becomes incumbent on the Prime Minister to immediately replace the existing minister with someone who can get results and who will be more competent to fulfil the specific duties for the benefit of all.
