Restoration works are being carried out on the small chapel in Kirkop dedicated to the Annunciation.
Embellishment works have already been carried out at Kirkop, where the church parvis and St Leonard Square were dealt with. Now it was the turn of the chapel, which was the village church until the parish church was built, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said.
The chapel was in a somewhat parlous state. Its exterior had a thick layer of cement going half way up all round, and that was harming both the stone and the structure.
The layer was removed using hand tools.
Other restoration works to be carried out this year, Mr Zammit said, will include the Madonna tal-Hlas chapel, and ta’ Qrejca chapel in Qormi, St Luke chapel in Zurrieq, the main gate at Mdina, Sa Maison bastions in Pieta, Sta Barbara bastions in Valletta, and the bastions at Mdina.
