You write (The PN’s greatest fears, TMID 17 January) that the Nationalist Party is afraid of losing the election by default to Labour because PN supporters will choose to vote for Alternattiva Demokratika or Azzjoni Nazzjonali, or else not vote at all.

I beg to disagree because in 1996, the last time the MLP was in government, the PN lost votes to the Malta Labour Party, with a 13,000 victory for the PN in 1992 transformed into a 13,000 win for Labour four years later. AD had not made a hit then, and AN did not exist.

So I do not agree with your line of reasoning. I believe the MLP will win the election because the people want change. The PN has been there for far too long and the country needs to move on to pastures new.

Yes, AD and AN will, most likely get a few votes from disgruntled PN supporters. But on the whole I think that this will not be enough for them to make an impact on local politics. The MLP will win because it is the party that can give Malta a better future.
