It seems, dear editor, that you can never get it right with One TV and radio newspaper analyst Silvio Debono.

Each time, as an independent newspaper, you criticise the Malta Labour Party, he comes down on you like a tonne of bricks and links your newspaper to the Nationalist Party.

Each time, as an independent newspaper, you agree with the Malta Labour Party he completely ignores your editorial.

It happened again this week.

You wrote what I think was a very balanced leader on MLP leader Alfred Sant’s medical condition (Removing doubts, TMID, 16 January) following the press conference he have on Monday. You took Dr Sant’s side in criticising all those who speculated about his health, rightly defending his right to privacy.

And yet Dr Debono ignored all this. He seemed not to want the Labour supporters to know what good things you wrote about Dr Sant’s right to privacy. This is, of course, part of a strategy to depict the independent media as being anti-Labour – anything written in favour of the MLP is ignored so that Labour’s strategy of attacking the independent media can continue to be pursued.

What a big shame.
