One of the major commitments and strategic objectives of a new Labour government, will be that of using information technology to improve Maltese and Gozitan citizens’ quality of life in an effective and tangible manner, said Labour’s spokesperson for foreign affairs and information technology, Leo Brincat.

Mr Brincat said the party aims to do so by, among other things, creating the right incentives and climate for a knowledge-based economy, to not only create new jobs, but also better jobs; give a boost to new opportunities in the cultural field by promoting Malta’s cultural assets by way of IT access and promotion; promoting teleworking from home through the internet so that citizens can carry out productive work for the government, the private sector and the social community; spreading further the application of e-commerce to ensure that Maltese businessmen can operate freely without being confined to their own offices; and utilising a better technological infrastructure between Malta and Gozo to provide job opportunities for Gozitan workers, to work in a new MITTS Centre in Gozo and thus benefit from jobs with a higher value added.
